Finally I paid extra to get a condenser blanket installed, and that quieted it down significantly, but some of the higher end and higher efficiency Lennox units already included one, so that partially would offset the higher cost. I didn't think it'd matter that much but since I'm often in the backyard in the summer, I'd hear my Lennox AC running and it'd drive me nuts. But that was a few years ago.Īlso, one thing I learned the hard way was central AC unit noise was very important to me, even though the unit sat outdoors. It was really, really irritating.īTW, are there still any eco rebates on the AC units available? I remember when I bought mine, I believe 14 SEER was eligible but lower SEER numbers were not. I remember the old days with a single-stage motor and single stage burner, and so it'd run at full blast super loud mode when on, then turn off to complete quietness. It's a 2-stage furnace with variable speed motor, so I'm guessing it will usually be running much quieter than its worst case scenario.
